THE MUSHROOM!

Grow a pair of sneaker? Why not.

Inspired by nature and innovative biomaterial, i want to experiment and grow instead of build a midsole by using mycelium. —Day 0

DAY 5 :

Collaborating with material engineer Lorenzo, we are molding mycelium in a vacuum-formed mold in lab. And set initial time to 10 days.

Day 10, sadly the mushroom did not dry properly in plastic mold, and we start to use heat gun to accelerate process.

Here shows the mix ratio and time to dry.

The visual from this dried midsole is very impactful and inspiring for me to program some 3D sketches.

From Maker Lab to Digital 3D Sketches

I am very inspired from mycelium structures, in terms of how organic it grow within its mold. Therefore, I start using grasshopper to mimic similar structure.

To continue my material study and explore the connection between 2D and 3D, I am currently researching on soybean.
